First Peoples Disability Network Australia will be holding community workshops around the country for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People with disability, their families and carers to have your say on the national disability strategy for beyond 2020. Workshops run from April to June 2019.

What is The National Disability Strategy?

The National Disability Strategy 2010-2020 is about creating a more inclusive society. It guides governments and other organisations to build the wellbeing of people with disability and their carers. The Strategy is also the main way Australia implements the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, making sure people with disability can participate in all areas of Australian life and in which the human rights of First Peoples with disability are recognised, respected, protected and fulfilled. The Strategy is a shared commitment by all governments to work together to improve the lives of Australians with disability, their families and carers. Last year, an independent review into how the Strategy was completed. This review showed that while some things are working well and progress has been made, there is still room for improvement.

Have your say

At the end of 2020 the current Strategy will end. Governments across Australia are working together to develop a new strategy for 2020 and beyond. This is your opportunity to help shape the new strategy. The strategy is for all Australians and we encourage everyone to have their say on the priorities and actions of the next strategy.
