First Peoples Disability Network’s Community Connector workshop was developed via extensive community engagement with First Peoples who have lived experience of disability.

The Community Connector workshop provides information on the perspective of disability in our community, and the history of inclusion. The workshop is delivered in a conversational yarning circle model and provides an opportunity for participants to ask questions during the workshop.

The workshop looks at the social and cultural models of support versus the medical model of support within a human rights framework including examples of how this may look.

The Community Connector training comes with a set of resources designed to support the community connectors in engaging with individuals around the NDIA and how to develop an individual plan that meets the needs of the participants.

Our resources have been developed to assist individuals with varying literacy and cognitive ability, and where English may not necessarily be their first language.
