Bird Flu factsheet for Indigenous communities

HPAI H5N1 (Bird Flu) is an infectious disease that started in birds but has spread to other animals. Bird Flu spreads quickly and has already killed and infected hundreds of millions of birds around the world and is likely to impact Australia in 2025. Bird Flu could be dangerous for Indigenous communities, culture and Country.

  • Birds and other animals that are:
  • Dead or dying
  • Look sick
  • Look groggy, walking backwards
  • Are wobbling
  • Have discharge from their eyes and beaks
  • Act strange in other ways

If you see dead or sick birds or animals:

  1. PROTECT yourself,
  2. RECORD what you see, and
  3. REPORT by calling 1800 675 888
