FPDN’s leadership and governance is inclusive of all perspectives, worldviews
and experiences reflected in the communities we serve, drawing on the voices of
First Nations people with disability, their families, and communities. As shown in
Our Governance Model below, First Nations people with disability walk in three worlds:
cultural way, mainstream way, and disability way.
Our Governance Model
Walking in Three Worlds
FPDN governance principles and practices have been developed utilising the indigenous organisations two-way governance model. The experience of First Nations people with disability is walking in three worlds: cultural way, mainstream way and disability way. Walking in three worlds is the foundation of our governance.
Within our governance, at all levels, we seek to draw upon this perspective and model. Our governance and decision making at all levels acknowledges and responds to the legacy of systemic and double discrimination faced by First Nations people with disability.
