Walking Together Training

Our Walking Together training is designed for ACCHOs working with mob with disability who want to deepen their disability competency, strengthen disability rights‑based practice, and walk alongside mob with disability and their families in ways that honour culture, rights, and community.

ACCHOs are already culturally strong, this training builds on that strength by supporting our workforce to confidently navigate disability, inclusion, and the systems that sit around our people.

We know the NDIS and other disability supports can be complex, confusing, and often not designed with our mob in mind. This training provides practical tools, clear information, and culturally grounded approaches to help ACCHOs support community to access the NDIS, understand their rights, and get the services they need in a way that feels safe and respectful. It’s about helping our people move through these systems without losing cultural identity, connection, or control.

This training brings together stories, practical tools, and community‑led knowledge to help our services stay culturally strong, inclusive, and responsive. We yarn about what’s working well, where the challenges are, and what we can strengthen together. It’s a space to share truth, build understanding, and grow our collective capability to support mob with disability in ways that uphold dignity, cultural identity, and self‑determination.

Together, we explore how we can continue leading the way ensuring First Nations people with disability are fully included, respected, and supported across all parts of community life. It’s about walking together as one mob, strengthening our practice, and building a future where disability inclusion is grounded in culture, community, and rights.

Jack - National Indigenous Australians Agency

A great foundation to start learning what our clients are facing.

Mathew – Bega Garnbirringu Health Services Kalgoorlie WA

I think the biggest take away was the lack of any words for disability, and the complete acceptance of individual differences culturally. This really helped to feel confident in my existing approach.

Cas – Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation Wodonga VIC

I reflected on many client’s that I have previously supported and I feel that I am better equipped when working with clients that have disabilities.
