We are committed to working with people and community in a values-led way, that incorporates First Nations Data Sovereignty.

To hold the project accountable, we have developed 6 core values that describe the way in which we will work.

Our Values Diagram
People Centred: People and community are at the centre of our project. It’s a project done for people, about people, by people. Within this we recognise that all people are complex and multifaceted, and we promise to meet that complexity with a human face.
Self-determination: You own your story. You have autonomy and control over the knowledge you share with us, and the right to decide how it is used. Therefore, we will always seek full and continual permission, both from individual owners and community, as we incorporate community knowledge into our resources.
Listening: Our aim is to really sit and be present with people, and to listen deeply, with openness and curiosity.
Cultural Safety: The Talk Up team treads softly and respectfully in community. We strive to work in a way that respects culture, country and community, and promotes physical and spiritual wellbeing and safety. For the project staff, this will involve a constant process of learning and unlearning, a willingness to sit with discomfort when we get it wrong, and open conversations about culture and power.
Relationships: First Nations communities are used to people walking into community, taking information and then leaving. We promise to hold space for connection and belonging as a cornerstone of strong, genuine and sustained relationships. We also promise to meet people and community where they are, and understand that trust and respect are things we need to earn rather than expect.
Learning Together: This project is about gifting knowledge and receiving knowledge. Learning is mutual and happens together and alongside. When we work together to combine our knowledge and share it with community, we support empowerment and enhance resilience.
