Talk up for your legal rights

Legal rights are your rights under Australian law. Knowing your legal rights and where to get support will help you to talk up if you, your family or someone in community are in trouble with the law.

First Peoples Disability Network Australia (FPDN) in partnership with the Australian Centre for Disability Law (ACDL) and People with Disability Australia (PWDA) are inviting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability to lead their own conversation about legal rights and create change for their communities.

The talk up for your legal rights project provides a safe space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability to have a yarn about legal problems that might be affecting them and their communities and use this knowledge to create education resources that they can use and share to build knowledge about legal rights and empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability to know and use their legal rights in everyday life.

The talk up for your legal rights project will be led by an advisory group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with lived experience of disability justice in NSW from 2020 – 2021.

More information about dates and locations for this project are coming soon.
