Informing communities about changes to disability services.

We are informing Aboriginal communities around the state about changes to the disability service system.

These changes are:

  • Living Our Way
  • the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

These changes mean that people can:

  • choose their own disability services and supports
  • decide how these services and supports will work for them.
  • We want to make sure that these changes will work for Aboriginal
  • communities. We are talking to government about this.
  • This work is conducted with financial assistance from NSW Family and Community Services.
  • Building capacity in disability services and community-controlled services

We are talking with:

  • disability services about how to best support Aboriginal people with disability
  • Aboriginal community-controlled services about how best to support people with disability.
  • This work is conducted with financial assistance from NSW Family and Community Services.
  • Building capacity in rural and remote communities

We are talking with people with disability in rural and remote communities about their needs and goals:

  • thinking about what their needs and goals are
  • planning how to achieve their needs and goals
  • getting support to achieve their needs and goals from disability services, other services, other people and groups in the community.
  • This work is conducted with financial assistance from NSW Family and Community Services.

Building capacity to engage with the NDIS:

  • We are coordinating local peer support networks of Aboriginal people with disability and their families to support information
  • sharing about the NDIS and how to use it. This work is funded by the National Disability Insurance Agency.
  • What do we mean when we say Living Our Way?
